4 Health tips to kick start your day

After sharing my own wellness story with you this week I thought it would be helpful to give you some guidance on little things you can do daily, "swaps" if you will that should hopefully assist you in making those little changes slowly that become daily life habits.

I am certainly no saint when it comes to my own health either - I am potentially the most naughty healthiest person you might ever meet. Along with my healthy diet, smoothies, vitamins, yoga & exercise I still consume chocolate (not the organic chocolate either, I'm talking bad ass delicious cadbury marvellous creation style), drink a lot of wine and won't say no to ice cream or a morning off exercise if my body is calling for it.

That's just my point though - don't aim to be perfect, just find your own perfect balance.

Health is a journey, your journey, and a journey you'll be on for the rest of your life. It's not a fad or something you can pick and choose to be interested in as you go along. It's serious, real life shit. Without our health we really have nothing. No-thing.

With all of this being said, it's important to find what works for you to be interested in fueling your body and mind in ways that you'll stay interested and motivated with it. Find your balance and your fun with it all.

To help inspire a few little changes you can make today, without breaking any banks (I know some healthy options can be a tad more expensive than the less healthy options) I give you ...

Anna's 4 tips to implement daily to live a healthier life

1. Start putting slices of Lemon in your water (p.s on that note, I hope you're drinking at least 2L of water a day).

The why: It helps Boosts your immune system (high in Vitamin C so great at fighting colds), Aids digestion (the lemon helps flush unwanted material from the body), Balances Ph (helps alkalize the body), helps with weight lose (lemons are high in pectin fiber which help you fight hunger cravings), Clears Skin (the vitamin C in it helps decrease wrinkles and blemishes whilst also purging toxins from the blood which keep your skin clean) and keeps you zen (Vitamin C is what is missing when you're stressed so drinking it in your water will keep it stocked up in your body).

2. Swap sugar in your tea with organic honey

The why: Because anything better than 2,3 or 4+ teaspoons of sugar a day already puts you way ahead. The other bonuses are that natural honey contains 22 amino acids, 27 minerals and 5000 enzymes, which all help you keep healthy by boosting your immune system, fight disease and fight off colds. P.s it also helps you fight fatigue as organic honey is armed with carbohydrates that give you energy! This was part of when I was up'ing my wellness journey. I was having 3-4 coffees still a day with a teaspoon of sugar in each! Ca-ra-zy so on top of reducing coffee intake I swapped out my sugars with a small teaspoon of organic honey.

3. Swap your commercial body moisturiser for organic Coconut Oil

The why: Apart from the fact that coconut oil kicks serious ass in every box - it is also awesome for your skin. Slather it all over your body for truly replenished, chemical free moisture. It can be used on all skin types (sorry guys/girls with conditions, not sure on that but good on the dry, normal, oily skin types) and gives you a beautiful shine. It is also known to delay wrinkles and sagging of skin and treating various skin problems including psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema and other skin infections. I shudder thinking about what goes in to the commercial skin care products these days but the fact that your skin is still dry after you use it is never a good sign. You can pick up any good organic coconut oil from your local health food store (they range between $10 - $20 bux). Its great for your hair & for cooking too! HUGE Win/Win

4. Watch your words, we are what we say

The why: Ok so this isn't something for your body but it's just as important if not more. One of the fastest ways to make a situation seem worse than it is, turn a positive in to a negative or start your day off on a bad foot is the choice of words you use. I am just challenging you to start small though with this; When somebody asks you how your day is, don't say "not bad" "yeah ok" "boring" or anything that can be perceived as negative. Here me out. The universe is listening, always, so when you say "not bad" which we know means it's been a good day, what the universe hears is still 2 negative words "not" and "bad". Cut it out right now. Change your vocabularly. I LOVE it when people ask me how my day is as they always laugh at my response (because it's so unusual to hear something different than good, ok, not bad); I use words like "wonderful", "fantastic", "amazing", "extraordinary", "fabulously good" - I put out to the universe that my day is GREAT (note: even if I don't always mean it, it helps me smile and think hey things could be worse). I challenge you to just start using better words when someone asks how your day is and strike bad, not good and ok from your vocabulary.

I suppose the biggest thing to take away with anything health related (& the same goes for life actually) is take what resonates, what's do-able and what will affect change & leave the rest. This is just a guide, for you from me with a lot of love. I'd love to hear in the comments below if you have any other little health tips that others (especially me!) might benefit hearing about.

My wellness story + 4 tips to kick start your own wellness journey

I wrote and re wrote this post 3 or 4 times, keeping out where the idea had come from, the personal side to why I'm sharing this particular subject and it just didn't flow freely, at all. I knew what I was trying to say and why, but keeping out the personal side to it didn't feel right. So I scrapped the whole thing, and started again with no inhibition - sharing the personal story before I give you some advice and this is the result;

My health and wellness journey started just over 3 years ago now, in fact, if we wanted to be really specific, it started for me on February 23rd 2010. You might ask how can I remember such a specific date or maybe more importantly why was it such a specific date, which are both valid questions. The answers to both can be answered with this.

It was the date of my major corrective jaw surgery.

I won't re hash everything again, as on the anniversary last year I shared the very personal story right here on the blog which you can read above.

What I can say is this though; before that date, I didn't take responsibility for my own health; I ate rather unhealthily, didn't feed my mind with positive words or books and wasn't in a place of complete truth or joy. And don't get me wrong. I was happy. There was just sign after sign that something wasn't quite right - developing anxiety & adult acne were just the start.

After my surgery however, and consequent emotional and physical changes and finally feeling like I was on the outside who I connected with on my insides - things changed.

I did a complete life overhaul. C.o.m.p.l.e.t.e

I changed my whole diet - out went pastas, breads and rice every day of the week in came smaller portions of meat and big healthy servings of salads and vegetables. Out went skipping breakfasts every day and in came an extra meal that should have been there from the start. Out went fizzy drinks and 7 coffees a day (yes you read that right) and in came 5L of water, green smoothies and only 1-2 coffees.

I changed my whole lifestyle - out went bad and toxic friendships and in came the most loving and supportive tribe of women that is still growing today. Out went negative mind sets, negative words and limiting beliefs and in came positive affirmations, problem solving questions, inspirational books, value and goal setting and intentions.

I changed my whole routine - out went mind numbing tv watching every night of the week and in came starting and writing this blog, out went no exercising and in came 4-5 1 hour exercise sessions a week, out went the belief I didn't have time for anymore in my life and in came weekly yoga sessions (with my beautiful mum no less).

And then....it came. The anxiety disappeared, the adult acne just went away, the weight dropped off and stayed off*, it was huge and obvious transformative growth that helped me to start living that truth and joy and love I was searching and yearning for through all those years of self doubt and insecurities.

It was there the whole time I just needed to fuel it with the right stuff to help it shine.

This is where my advice kicks in though. Love soaked, purest intention advice.

We ALL have an incredibly unique set of gifts powerful enough to change our world. You just have to let them out. The world is in fact depending on you to set your gifts free gorgeous, and it's up to you to make that happen.

I know it can be a little daunting and you will have moments of overwhelm - but just start small. My overhaul didn't happen overnight, hell it didn't even happen within weeks - it has been quite literally a 3 year journey.

Here are a few little suggestions to help you start your own wellness journey ...

+ Let go of worrying what other people might think. If you're living authentically and from a place of love (which is what happens when you start to live your truth) that is a beautiful and positive thing. There is nothing negative about it. People aren't going to judge you for being more positive and making some required changes - in fact it's the quickest and best way to work out who should be in your life and who shouldn't. Those that do judge and bring you down need to be cut. Worry less, live more. It's that Simple.

+ Start small & don't let overwhelm stop you. If there is one thing I can't emphasize enough it is to not try to do it all and change it all at once. Start with one thing and implement it until it's a new habit. Remember it takes 30 days to make or break a habit  so stick at it, everyday. It might mean reading a book you have heard is amazing for 10 minutes before bed each night or cutting down vs stopping all together drinking fizzy drinks. And if you feel like you stuffed up, honour that it's a lesson, not a failure and use the following day as a beautiful gift to start again.

+ Be grateful. For all that you have experienced in your past that has helped shaped you today, for all that is to come in the future and for every other day in between. Life got a lot sexier and extraordinary for me when I started to become grateful - & I don't mean grateful for just the big stuff. Be grateful for the little stuff - like hot cups of tea, the uplifting word you just heard a parent give their child, hot water, clean water, your breathe. Being grateful even if you can't change all the other stuff puts you in a remarkable position of love - for life and it's blessings.

+ Practice self love everyday. This is by far and large the most crucial step in your own wellness. Love starts at 'home' which means directly with yourself. Letting go of limiting beliefs like "I can't" It's impossible" "I'm not good enough" "I don't have the time" and instead telling yourself "I'm worthy" "I can" "It's totally possible" "let's do this" "I have time" will slowly change the way you view yourself and ultimately your power and world. Give your body what it needs - sleep, nutrients, water, and your mind what it needs intention, positivity, nourishment - but do this every.single.day.

Just remember that the fact that you're here, on this earth, breathing, means you have a purpose - the world is waiting for you to share your gifts and shine your light. You don't need to figure it all out instantly, start small, run your race slowly and you'll get there. I promise.

Go on though - What are you waiting for?

Slowing life down a little; & why you should too

You might have noticed it's been a little quiet around here this week, & I just wanted to stop past to say it has happened by accident but I have decided to roll with it.

Life got really crazy really quickly since last Saturday and I am just letting the wind pull me where it wishes to at this particular moment in time which has been lovely. Instead of being able to pour my heart & soul in to love soaked posts for this little space I've been spending some quality time with the oh so handsome fiance, getting on top of my emails from some of you beautiful girls who have been emailing me recently for advice and general gorgeous words and lastly, and most excitedly, planning the styling for and getting invites out for the impending engagement party (cue excited girly screams, big smiles and a heart so full of love it could burst).

So basically, I'm checking in with myself, in big ways, I'm learning and owning when it's time to switch off than stay connected, and listening to my heart and quiet the doubt & guilt in my head (of not going going going!)

I thought it was a perfect little opportunity to remind you to do some of your own checking in, you know, just be aware of your space, what your body and mind is really craving at the moment and give that to yourself.

It might be an early night to catch up on some sleep, an early morning to embrace a stunning sunrise, a day off exercise to give your body a rest, a day of exercise to kick start an amazing day or just general switch off''edness - but whatever it is, listen, tune in and honour your gorgeous self by giving your mind, body, spirit exactly what you need at this moment in time.

I have and it feels amazing.

Muchos love beautifuls x x

Taking a stance on busyness

I think it's time we had a little chat, got real you know, looked at the honest and truthful side of...

Being Busy.

bus·y
adjective

1.
actively and attentively engaged in work or a pastime: busy with her work.
2.
not at leisure; otherwise engaged: He couldn't see any visitors because he was busy.
3.
full of or characterized by activity: a busy life.

Here is one thing I'm learning about busyness as time goes on that I think is incredibly important to discuss as 2013 really get's going in to full swing - everybody is. Being busy is not unique to certain people or stereotypes, it applies to all of us, majority of the time. So why does that even matter? Because I think we need to start taking charge of that word, get control back on our work / life balance and start using 'busy' a lot less frequently in our lives whilst getting clear on a couple of little things (me included!).

We choose to be busy, so we can just as easily unchoose it

"I have 3 events this weekend, a full on week at work, I have to find time for my gym sessions & yoga, 2 dinner dates and I don't even know where I'm going to find the time to catch up with my best friend I've been needing to talk to let alone find the time to hang out with my boyfriend"

Sound familiar  Of course it does, because in today's fast paced, where has the time gone' world - we are all guilty of thinking, feeling, saying the above.

And you know what? You're right. Yup, I totally agree that with all'o'that going on, you would be super busy, but how much of it is busy by choice? A-lot of it I'd say.

Here's the ouch part though; sometimes, saying how busy we are is like implying the other person isn't, or worse still, that they're not a priority in your life. Not true (x a million) of course, but it's all about perception beautiful, we have to remember that.

There is a difference between being busy & doing too much

Let's define the difference before we go any further because I am as guilty as the next person in big ways when it comes to this.

Busy - Busy means a packed diary, little spare time and a tonne of fun stuff mixed in with the not so fun stuff. Perfect example is working full time, but making sure there is lot's of social fun going on during the week and weekends with lot's of exercise thrown in for good measure.

Busy makes me feel good, it keeps me motivated, focused, lights my fire and ignites the time manager in me who wants to do it all whilst not burning out.

Then there's ....

Overwhelmed (doing too much) - means burn out, tiredness, moodiness, loss of control of what you want vs. what you're doing, sadness. It means complete and utter 'help me, what the hell have I done to take on so much at once and when the eff am I going to get the time to do it all". It's the "I am so exhausted, run down and truly don't have time" line you pull out from time to time.

See the difference? Because it's huge. Busy should be manageable, it should light you up, not bring you down, it should inspire you, not burn you out.

Make sure you're not overwhelming yourself with too much - all the time, keep your to do's in check and manage your Yes's better when you feel you're close to overwhelm.

Every single week my calendar includes 5 days of full time work, 1 night volunteering, 4-5 gym sessions, 1 yoga class and blogging. It's my choice though and I have to make sure that doing all of this whilst taking on too much other 'stuff' doesn't turn me from good busy, in to tired and overwhelmed.

Keep it in check sista'!

Saying "I'm busy" makes you feel a lot more busier than you actually are

"Your beliefs become your thoughts, Your thoughts become your words, Your words become your actions, Your actions become your habits, Your habits become your values, Your values become your destiny.” - Gandhi

Gandhi always gets it so right doesn't he? If you are what you eat, then you are ab-so-lutley what you think and what you say. Your words become your reality, they shape your feelings and can make or break you during extra stressed out times. Don't believe me? Try this on for size...

Say the following allowed...

"I'm so busy, I'm never going to find time to fit all of this in"

How did you immediately feel? Did you get taken back to a time when you have actually uttered those words? (I did, and it was as recent as last week). Did it remind you of how stressed you usually are when you say it? How overwhelming it all feels? How you really believe you won't actually fit it all in?

Now change it to this (& say it allowed)...

"Sure I have some stuff going on right now but I am managing it beautifully, will get it done, I always do, and I am blessed I even have the opportunity to live the life that I lead"

Now how did you feel? Did you smile? Did you believe it? You should have, because it's true. Simply changing our words can change our lives. I always remember whenever I'm going through a stressful time the saying "This too shall pass". It does, it always does, so remember next time you're feeling you're about to utter those negative busy words, switch it up - be grateful, remind yourself you will get through it, because you always do.

We control our lives, therefore we control what we fill it with

You better believe it honey, because we do. We control our days, our weeks, our months, our years. We control our lives, hell, we control our universe. How many times have you referred to your crazy schedule or busy week as something beyond your control? Like it owns you?  Want to know something super powerful and true? It doesn't.

You choose to work where you work, say yes to what you say yes to, give up what you give up in order to appease other people. YOU are choosing what you are filling your life with.

Don't fill it with s.h.i.t that you can't even remember how you let in to begin with... schedules you don't like (hello early morning starts, late night finishes), negative people and events you really don't even like attending.

Make it count, make it bright & make it YOU.

Negotiate better working hours with your boss and if need be, get a new job. Find events you'd actually love to attend and start taking the positive  amazing, good soul filling friends you have in your life along for the ride.

My own personal pledge for 2013...

+ Stop saying "I'm busy" & start saying "I'm grateful for the fun and fulfilling life that I lead"

+ Make time for my beautiful family & friends whenever they need me. Not ever feel or be too busy that I can't fit them in.

+ Fill my life with what I WANT to fill it with, not let overwhelm creep in and let busy take my life over.

+ To make time for me, and continue to nourish my mind with positive words and books, my body with whole and nutritious food and my soul with choosing love everytime.

and finally...

+ To live, with fulfillment, control over my life and days that contain my favourite things.

Over to you now ... What are some of your own personal pledges for 2013 now we have cleared up that we're not as busy as we think we are? I'd love to hear it in the comments!

3 ways To find better Priorities

Oh why hel-lo February so nice to see you..although, what have you done with January? I swear I left it around here somewhere.

Does everybody else fee like January has whizzed by leaving us all a little overwhelmed about resolutions that are yet to be given a second glance and things we haven't yet gotten around to? Me too, don't worry, but here's the thing though. This is just how life is. I'm 25 this year and one thing is becoming incredibly clear to me. No matter what, there is always going to seem like we haven't got enough hours in the day, days in our week and months in our year, and I am learning s.l.o.w.l.e.y to be totally ok with that. One of my biggest intentions this year was to not say the words "I don't have enough time" or "I'm so busy", because really, if something is that important to me I always miraculously have the time to get it done. I am also well aware that I am not the only busy one, life is busy for everybody these days.

What I am finding more and more is that it's not about time, it's about your priorities. Plain and simple. It's not about not having enough time, or being so busy you can't keep up with your own life, it's about prioritising correctly, working out what is actually important to you, what nurtures you, and dividing your time and energy around that. This year my priorities were loud & clear - my health and my happiness, so I make time for that. I make time to put good, clean food in to my mouth and chemical free lotions on my body. I make time to get out in the sun even for 10 minutes a day for some of that good ole' vitamin D - direct from the sun. I make time to read positive books and quotes to nuture my mind and I make time for family and friends who lift and inspire.

If you want to get a little clearer on your own priorities and find some more time in your life then here are just a few helpful suggestions to get you on your way.

1. Get clear on what exactly is important to you

Is your health your most important goal this year? Or maybe it was to spend more time outside instead of inside your office, then your home once you get home. Is it doing more things that challenge you? Push you out of your comfort zone? Maybe you felt this was the year that you were going to invest more in to the uplifting and good relationships you've managed to attract and slowly rid your life of the toxic relationships still hanging on. Whatever that is important to you, grab a piece of paper & write those suckers down. For a quick snapshot at mine it would look like this:

1. My health. Looking after my mind, body & soul, walking the walk with it not just saying that I will.
2. Growing my tribe of strong, supporting, beautiful & inspiring women in my life.
3. Investing energy in to my relationship with Morgs. Being totally and fully present in every moment we hang together not half in it whilst checking emails, twitter and facebook.
4. Save money wisely to travel more and not spend it on unnecessary purchases.

Until you work out what it is exactly that is most important to you there is no way to divide your time and focus your attention correctly. Work this out and the rest gets easier, promise.

2. Work out what is wasting your time currently & rid it from your life

It sounds a little crazy but you don't know how beneficial this task is until you do it. Working out what is wasting your time and taking you away from priorities that will improve your life & happiness is as beneficial to working out what is most important to you. Why? Because frankly, you have GOT to start cutting the shit from your life. I did my own little list at the end of last year and looked at what I didn't want to carry over in to 2013 and I knew, before I even wrote down what was wasting my time that majority of it was WAY too much time on social media and getting to work way earlier than I had to. We have got to spend less time connected to facebook, instagram, twitter, youtube and the likes and more time connected - to friends, our loved ones, nature and positive life force.

Are you spending way too many hours a day mindlessly scrolling through Facebook & Twitter? Or maybe, you are saying yes WAY too often to events or people that you don't even value in your life. Another big time waster is TV watching. I know (oh do I know) how nice it is to just sit and veg out on the couch after a hard day at work & watch your favourite show (modern family is my weakness) BUT could that 30 minutes+ be better spent reading a book you have wanted to start forever or sending those personal emails you never get time to send during the day? My guess is yes.

Once you have your list of time wasting activities or people you have to start taking immediate action on cutting it down or out in your life. It is the biggest breathe of fresh air when you realise just how much more you can achieve on things that you love than things that you were just doing to fill time.

3. Practice saying NO more

I have to say, I need to listen to my own advice on this one but I am 100% better than I was a couple of years ago. There is absolutely nothing wrong with saying No. In fact, I now believe, and I really believe, that by saying No to things when you really don't want to go, or catch up or whatever else is in fact the best thing you can do. We should always be showing up for ourselves in all aspects of our life 100% and so by being authentic with your Yes's means that what you are choosing to show up to or attend or be in the moment with, you are saying yes because you want too not because you have too. These two little letters could potentially save you majority of your time to invest more wisely in your self, and the priorities that honour you and your life.

_________________________________________________________________________________

3 simple steps but 3 simple things that I practice in my life almost daily to ensure I am always sticking to what's important to me and choosing things that I WANT to be spending my time. I truly think the best way to honour your life is to fill with things that bring you joy and any other feelings that wake your soul up.

We DO have the time, we just have to spend it more wisely.

Your Turn though honey's.

Have you found a way to use your time better that you already implement in your life to do more of the things you love? I'd love to hear about them as I am sure would everybody else so get sharing in the comments below xx

Health week; Dry Brushing for the skin

I had only heard of dry brushing recently and had known straight away I wanted to start trying it myself. The idea is that brushing your skin when it's dry with a soft bristled brush helps detoxify it, remove dead skin cells, improves circulation - and is even said to have a calming effect! I had also heard it was great for stopping and minimising cellulite, so naturally, went to the shops straight away to get my own brush to begin. The results? I have found after just a few days little differences - especially the feel of it. Don't take my advice though - here are some of the benefits of dry brushing from the experts, and how to do it properly should you want to try it yourself (which I can't recommend highly enough).

Benefits of Dry Brushing
  • removes cellulite (to remove cellulite stick at it daily for months)
  • cleanses the lymphatic system
  • removes dead skin layers
  • strengthens the immune system
  • stimulates the hormones and oil-producing glands
  • tightens the skin, preventing premature ageing
  • tones the muscles
  • stimulates circulation
  • improves the function of the nervous system
  • helps digestion
  • fat deposits are better distributed
  • unplugs the pores in the skin
  • increases the skin’s ability to absorb nutrients
  • increases cell renewal
How To...Dry Brush your skin

To dry brush the skin, you will need a soft, natural fibre brush with a long handle, so that you are able to reach all areas of your body. A loofah sponge or rough towel can also be used. Do not use synthetic fibre brushes as these may be too rough for your skin.

When dry brushing, always do so before bathing or showering. You can brush from head to toe or toe to head, as long as the entire body is brushed. Use long, sweeping strokes that start from the bottom of your feet upwards, from the hands towards the shoulders, and upward on the torso in order to help lymph fluid drain back towards the heart. Be aware that stroking away from the heart puts extra pressure on the valves within the veins and lymph vessels and can cause ruptured vessels and varicose veins.

When brushing, use lighter pressure in areas where the skin is thinner and heavier pressure where it is thicker. Perform the brushing once a day, preferably first thing in the morning. A thorough brushing should take about 15 minutes to complete but any amount of time you spend on it will be of benefit. If you are feeling unwell, you can brush twice a day. Dry brush areas of cellulite for 5 to 10 minutes twice a day to help it dissolve. To see results, you will need to do so consistently for at least five months.

....

So what are you waiting for? You can pick up your own brush from your local beauty store for cheap. I am getting in the habit of doing it before my morning shower each day - but of course with anything, find what works for you and then stick at it. Happy brushing!

Health week; Top 5 regrets of the dying

I don't think death or dying is a comfortable topic for anybody, and why should it be? It is such a sad time for anyone when they loose a loved one and it is as everybody knows..very final. We all would love to think we have long and healthy lives ahead of us, a wish I hope for everyone, however you never know when your time will be up. I don't think that should be a morbid thought however - in fact I use it to inspire me. To live with no regrets and make each day exciting, loving, and really ake each day count. I stumbled upon an incredibly profound and inspiring article in Good Health magazine talking about the Regrets of the dying. If there was ever any advice you can draw inspiration to live more fearlessly and truer to yourself it is that of people who are at the end of their life - and sharing what they wished they did differently ... here is that advice brought to you by author Bronnie Ware with commentary by me.

"I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me"

Bronnie: 'This was the most common regret of all. When people realise that their life is almost over and look back clearly on it, it is easy to see how many dreams have gone unfulfilled. Most people had not honoured even a half of their dreams and had to die knowing that it was due to choices they had made, or not made'.

Me: It is SO important to try to honour your dreams, do what you love in life, not be dictated by others opinions or living other peoples lives or expectations. Remember from the moment you loose your health - it can be too late so start living your true life that you're meant to be living now, not tomorrow.

" I wish I hadn't worked so hard"

Bronnie: 'This came from every male patient that I nursed. They missed their children's youth and their partner's companionship. Women also spoke of this regret. But as most were from an older generation, many of the female patients had not been breadwinners. All of the men I nursed deeply regretted spending so much of their lives on the treadmill of a work existence.'

Me: I just don't think it's worth working yourself in to the ground your whole life to enjoy retirement when you're too old to really actually enjoy it. Instead, I aim to have mini retirements my whole life - travel when I'm young, live hard & fast, so I never look back wishing I hadn't worked so hard and missed out on breathe taking, awe inspiring experiences and opportunities throughout my whole life - not just at the end of it.

"I wish I'd had the courage to express my feelings"

Bronnie: Many people suppressed their feelings in order to keep peace with others. As a result, they settled for a mediocre existence and never became who they were truly capable of becoming. Many developed illnesses relating to the bitterness and resentment they carried as a result.

Me: I have a theory in life - that I don't mind if I don't know what others think about me (it's none of my business anyway) but I always ensure that everybody knows exactly how I feel about them - that I love them, that I am lucky to have them in my life. I use handwritten letters and birthday & Christmas cards to remind people whenever I get a chance of my feelings. What are you doing to make sure this isn't a regret at the end of your life?

"I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends"

Bronnie: "Often they would not truly realise the full benefits of old friends until their dying weeks and it was not always possible to track them down. Many had become so caught up in their own lives that they had let golden friendships slip by over the years. There were many deep regrets about not giving friendships the time and effort that they deserved. Everyone misses their friends when they are dying."

Me: I think maintaining ANY relationship is incredibly important for your well being - life is richer and a lot more fun shared so make sure you are working on your own relationships no matter how busy you think life is for you (advice I need to listen to myself!)

"I wish that I had let myself be happier"

Bronnie: "This is a surprisingly common one. Many did not realise until the end that happiness is a choice. They had stayed stuck in old patterns and habits. The so-called 'comfort' of familiarity overflowed into their emotions, as well as their physical lives. Fear of change had them pretending to others, and to their selves, that they were content. When deep within, they longed to laugh properly and have silliness in their life again."

Me: Happiness is a choice. YOUR choice. You are the only person responsible for your own happiness, and it isn't a choice you make just once, you have to make that choice every single day you're alive. What do they say? Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans - it's so true. Life can be a struggle sometimes and things are certainly not always fair, but there are always lessons to be learnt, new days for fresh beginnings and beauty in the mundance. Don't have this regret on your own death bed - choose happiness.
.....

So there you have it. The Top 5 regrets. I wish for each and every one of you that you live with no regrets and always have love & fun surrounding you in your life. xx

Health week; Green Smoothies for the body

I had always heard of people, super healthy people, going on about Green Smoothies and the benefits they provided you with. My general thoughts were always similar to "Yeah Yeah, whatever, I don't need to go to that extent, and I bet it tastes disgusting". That was until, I found this amazing website. A couple named Curtis & Candice share day after day the most profound articles they've written on life & bettering your mind, body & spirit AND delicious healthy recipes ... which is how & where I came to stumble upon, make & now drink their Green Smoothie recipe. It has as much good stuff as a shake could possibly have, and after just 2 days of drinking a big glass each morning - I am seeing and feeling an amazing difference. My skin is so clear and I am still buzzing with energy come 5pm in the evening. Mr M, who normally isn't in to any of this 'stuff'' is now having his own glass of green goodness each morning as he said he noticed a difference in me almost immediately. Remember how I said it only takes 30 days to make or break a habit? Well this is my new habit forming health kick I'm starting with - A green smoothie every morning that I am actually really excited about. If you are one of those "I'll start tomorrow or next week' people who always put off looking after yourself secondary to work or daily to do's, I challenge you this week to make a choice to start looking after yourself today, right now, and a green smoothie each morning is a great way to start.

1 lime (with a little bit of peel)
1 medium banana
3 cups of filtered water (+ an extra cup of water or coconut water if required)

All we need is....Health

There is a lesson, a powerful lesson that I am learning as each year and birthday passes, a lesson that we all know, but I think take for granted. The Lesson? That we can have all the money in the world, all the love in the world, everything we want in the world in fact - but if we don't have our health, we have nothing. No-thing. I had a list a mile long of To Do's last week, but was struck down with one of the worst flu’s - + chest infection & sinusitis - I’ve had in years which put me out of action for a solid week. In Anna time, that means light years. There is nothing like a bout of sickness however to slap a fresh perspective across your face which is exactly what has happened with me. I consider myself relatively healthy. I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, exercise more than 4 times a week, drink 4L+ of water a day, and get to yoga once a week, so how can I and how did I get so sick? I believe because I am not valuing mind, body and spirit as a whole. Unfortunately, I don’t always listen to my body. It's great to look after yourself on the surface, but what's going on in your mind and internally is just as important to be taking extra good care of. It's a whole package. I have decided I need to start taking even better care of myself, actually listening to what my body is trying to tell me. Health & Vitality is my number one value, because without that, I have nothing else, I can't be who I want to be or do what I want to do. With that in mind, I thought the week ahead I would focus on all things for the mind, body & spirit - share some healthy recipes I've started using, put up some amazing inspirational quotes for the mind, look at the regrets of the dying (so we can learn from those who have been there before us) and share some great tips for taking care of your body. So here's to a week of health, & revitalising our bodies, minds and spirits.

5 Great articles for Mind/Body/Spirit Wellbeing

Another week has come & gone and as I say au revoir to my working days and bonjour to the long weekend I am  not sure whether I want to drink a whole bottle of red and put my dancing shoes on or slip in to my pj's and sleep the weekend away, it really has just been one of those weeks. A week though, might I had, that has possibly been the most exciting and busiest one of my life to date - not counting the week that I finished my degree and walked out of my final ever exam and on a plane to Thailand to party & celebrate my brothers 30th birthday - that was bigger than the hangover part 2. With that being said, I thought this week was as good as any to reflect back on my most favourite articles I've written for Possibly Maybe that I like to share on here every Friday also. I'm still loving to learn and grow Possibly Maybe and am determined as ever to make it the number 1 spot to go to in Australia for finding love, advice or even just some great date ideas. Whilst I determine whether it is a party weekend or more of a relaxing kind of weekend here are the words I've written for you, - and will continue to write for you - with love.  I hope you all have a magical weekend. P.s Click on the hyperlinks to take you to each seperate article.

Change vs Growth - a look at the over used term of 'you've changed' used negatively instead of respecting the fact we're all just human beings trying to find our own path in the world.

Don't write them off just yet - How many people are you passing up by not being open to all the possibilities and opportunities coming your way (just because they don't fit your list that is a mile long?) It might be time to assess that list. Think about it!

To attract a King you have to be a Queen - you give what you get and you attract what you put out. Are you putting out the right energy and behaviour? Maybe not.

Happiness & you - I never claim to be an expert, but this was my little take on living a happier life.

Don't accept shit behaviour - a tough read for those not willing to admit to themselves they might be accepting said shit behaviour but an important read nonetheless. Your happiness, health and fulfillment are so important to leading an amazing life - it starts with expecting the best kind of behaviour from yourself, and your loved ones.

Respect - 7 words, so many different meanings but I try to sum it up in this article and invoke some more respectful behaviour. Respect and understanding - We all crave it but do we all live and lead by example?

Have you got a favourite article from the above? Or any other advice I've shared on the blog? Id love to hear your own personal favourite pieces of advice you live by in life or love xx

10 tips for living a fulfilled life

Some time ago now, I had read that it takes 30 days to make or break a habit, just 30 days. I was fascinated by this and set out to think of something I could do positively for 30 days to create a new habit. Initially I thought of riding my bike to work, but then realised between that, the gym and my yoga, it was too much and something I could see myself not following through with. So I went back to the drawing board and really thought about what I could do, and then, it dawned on me. Reading. I love reading, but always seemed to 'not have time' or 'not be able to find the right book' excuses that stopped me from just stopping and sitting for however long it took to enjoy some 'me reading time'. So, for 30 days, each night before I went to sleep, I read for 30 minutes. That was over 2 months ago now and a day won't go by without me feeling the need to sit and read for 30 minutes. I seek out articles, great books, inspirational quotes... whatever I can find to inspire my mind. In light of this, I do happen to find some fantastic words along the way and last night was no exception. I found this website, and found the most beautiful article with pieces of advice for living. So although this week I am not writing on love or dating, I feel the below had to be shared. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

1. Memorise something everyday
This will leave your brain sharp and your memory functioning, you will also have a huge library of quotes to bust out at any moment

2. Constantly try to reduce your attachment to possessions
Those who are heavy-set with material desires will have a lot of trouble when their things are taken away from them or lost.

3. Develop an endless curiosity about the world
Become an explorer and view the world as your jungle. Stop and observe all of the little things as completely unique events. Try new things. Get out of your comfort zone and try to experience as many different environments and sensations as possible. This world has so much to offer, so why not take advantage of it?

4. Learn to focus only on the present
The past is unchangeable so it is futile to reflect on it unless you are making sure you do not repeat past mistakes. The future is but a result of your actions today. So learn from the past to do better in the present so that you can succeed in the future.

5. Smile more often
Whenever you get a grin on your face, your brain is releasing serotonin, the happy hormone. Smiling is the natural way to force yourself to be happy.

6. Be honest at all times
Lies lead to nothing but trouble. Being known as trustworthy is an excellent trait to maintain and essential to having integrity.

7. Figure out what your goals and dreams are
So many people wander aimlessly through life simply go for whatever small thing they want moment by moment. Instead, decide what your perfect life consists of and begin to put the steps in motion to reach that place. The most satisfying thing in the world is overcoming a challenge and reaching a goal. We are the happiest when we are growing and working towards something better.

8. Develop the ability to forgive
Forgiveness is something that most people fail miserably at even thought it’s so simple. Grudges only bring more misery to those who hold them and prevent good relations with the target. YOU makes mistakes all of the time so why not have mercy when other do.

9. Come up with a life mantra
You know, like “Carpe Diem” or “Live life to the fullest,” but not as cliché. Make it something that really hits home with you so that you will actually stick to it. Make sure it’ not so specific that it rarely applies but also not so general that it’s not personal.

10. Do what you love
There is a huge difference between making a life and making a living; which one are you making right now? So many spend their entire lives trying to make as much money as possible so that they can afford to do what they really want later. It makes no sense to settle in life until you’re 65 so that you can retire and do what you want when you’re already WAY past your prime. We only live life once so why wouldn’t you want to spend it pursuing your bliss?
